Costa Daurada

The Costa Daurada is one of the main tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, thanks in part to its pleasant, mild climate. It is the ideal place to enjoy a holiday with the whole family.

The Costa Daurada offers as many choices as it has visitors and there is something to suit everybody’s taste: the coast, the rich cultural and historical heritage, a wide variety of leisure activities and beautiful scenery. Inland, surrounded by spectacular natural landscapes, you can enjoy open-air activities, visit vineyards with a grand winemaking tradition, taste the delicious Mediterranean cuisine and take advantage of a wide range of health and business tourism opportunities.

Culture, history, nature and gastronomy are the vertices of a rich, lively land.

The monumental complex of Tarraco, the Roman Empire’s ancient capital on the Iberian Peninsula, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 2000. The area also preserves a notable mediaeval legacy in the Cistercian Route monasteries of Santes Creus and Poblet, the latter also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as towns that were of great importance during the Middle Ages. The city of Reus is the main exponent of the area’s Modernist architectural heritage and is part of the European Network of Art Nouveau Cities.

Gastronomy on the Costa Daurada is a high quality art whose practitioners know how to combine to perfection the diversity of Mediterranean cuisine with a grand winemaking tradition. Five “designations of origin” are a guarantee of quality and they include the most internationally well known Priorat and Penedès areas.

Nature also offers the visitor fascinating places, such as the Prades Mountains and the Serra del Montsant Natural Park, two Mediterranean mountain habitats with forests and an interesting variety of flora and fauna.

The Costa Daurada coastline is populated by large holiday resorts and small fishing villages. They offer the visitor quality accommodation, family activities, sports, sailing, water sports, etc. and of course the magnificent PortAventura World theme park.

TARRAGONA

Tarragona is a Mediterranean city with a history that stretches back more than two thousand years, and boasts no fewer than three World Heritage Site distinctions. Since the Romans first christened the town as Tarraco, Tarragona has experienced times of greater or lesser glory, but always with a common denominator: it has managed to progress by adapting to its history. You can see this in the thousand-year-old relics intermingled with the houses and shops in Plaça de la Font; in the stunning Cathedral that was built over the Roman temple dedicated to Emperor Augustus; in the city’s different historical routes (Roman, Medieval and Modernist); in the archaeological complex of Tarraco that is listed as one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites; and in the well-known historical re-enactments of the Tarraco Viva festival. Tarragona is history and yet it is also Mediterranean, a reflection of the sea that bathes its lands and defines its landscape, its identity, its gastronomy and its traditions. Tarragona is 15 kilometres of coastline for relaxing and enjoying nature. Tarragona is the Mediterranean Diet (the second of its World Heritage distinctions), reflected in its delicious seafood cuisine with its own unique personality. El Serrallo, the fishermen’s neighbourhood, which boasts the Marine District of Catalonia distinction, is one of the most traditional districts in the city and the best place to eat mouth-watering seafood dishes. Tarragona is also the city of castells, or human towers, a tradition that was declared as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2010, and an event that the city throws itself into wholeheartedly thanks to its four colles (teams), numerous festive days on which this activity takes place, and the spectacular annual Castells competition. We invite you to come and visit these and many more of the fascinating sites in Tarragona. Be sure to discover (and enjoy) this well-kept secret of the Mediterranean. Welcome! More information
